Clean Water and Sanitation

2.5+ billion people lack access to latrines and improved water sources which leads to up to 1.6 million deaths per year (source: WHO).

Diarrhea

Diarrhea

Diarrheal disease is the second leading cause of death in children under five years old. Killing around 760,000 children annually. Globally, there are nearly 1.7 billion cases of diarrheal disease every year (source: WHO).

Childhood Mortality

Childhood Mortality

6.3 million children under the age of five died in 2013. Leading causes of death in under-five children are preterm birth complications, pneumonia, birth asphyxia, diarrhea and malaria. About 45% of all child deaths are linked to malnutrition. More than half of these early child deaths are due to conditions that could be prevented or treated with access to simple, affordable interventions.

Early Childhood and Maternal Care

In developing countries nearly half of all mothers and newborns do not receive skilled care during and immediately after birth. Of the 8.2 million under-five child deaths per year, about 3.3 million occur during the neonatal period —in the first four weeks of life. Almost 800 women die every day due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth (source: WHO).

Malaria

Malaria

In 2013, malaria caused an estimated 584,000 deaths (with an uncertainty range of 367,000 to 755,000), mostly among African children (source: WHO).
